Where Style Meets Function

Though we didn’t put it in the name of our shop, custom furniture makes up a major part of It’s Bout Time Upholstery’s business. We’ve made countless custom-made pieces, some traditional and some more exotic. It’s just one of the ways we serve the unique desires of our customers. No matter your needs and style, you can always count on us to design and construct furniture with the highest quality materials and finest craftsmanship.

Take this custom-made ottoman for example. Like many Bellevue residents, this family found themselves precariously balancing soda cans and coffee cups on their old tufted ottoman as they settled down to watch television. As you might imagine, spills, near-spills, and the resulting anxiety brought them to It’s Bout Time to order a more functional alternative.

This piece serves their purposes perfectly. We included a small table in the middle of the ottoman to house beverages and snacks safely. But just in case of accidents, Kravet vinyl fabric wicks away spills and cleans with a dry towel. Removable pillows can be recovered or replaced at a whim but attach to the body for seamless use as either ottoman or extra seating.

If you are in need of a more practical but stylish television-watching experience, come on by the shop! Because let’s face it. Often, an ottoman is not just an ottoman.

A Good Strength Training Routine

Welcome Spring With All Things New

Each year, It’s Bout Time Upholstery celebrates the onset of spring by introducing bright hues, exotic patterns, and even a bit of brilliant blue into your day. When spring comes, each of us gets an opportunity to look around, reassess our living space (and even our life!), and make appropriate changes. In the upholstery business, that can mean reupholstering tired couches, ordering a custom focus piece, or even outfitting your boat for the summer. Custom Textured Ottoman: For Feet

Bellevue patrons usually want one of three things when they order a custom ottoman: 1) They want an ottoman that will never be touched, much less used for feet (or worse – feet with shoes on!), 2) they want an ottoman that will actually be used as a table, with a decorative tray for holding beverages, or 3) (and more rarely) they want an ottoman for an ottoman’s job. That is, they want something with an extremely high thread count that can withstand bare, socked and shoe’d feet, trays, coffee drips, and maybe even crayons.

This customer wanted #3. So we outfitted a custom made ottoman with her exact specifications in a Duralee Suburban Home Collection fabric that can withstand anything her family and friends can throw at it. While our expertise makes us adept at creating one-of-a-kind artistic pieces for the likes of local designer jewelry and handbag stores, our bread-and-butter is in creating high quality custom made furniture that fits your hearty lifestyle, for years and years.

Brocade Home

It’s a hard knock life. So kick up your feet on a luxe chenille ottoman and while away the hours. Not everyone can come home to a soft brocade cushion, take a sip, and let the day go. One of our customers gave it a go with this custom made chenille brocade ottoman. Its ruched sides and inverted pleats in a muted zebra print add a hint of kick in an otherwise classic, luxurious pin-cushion piece. In this hard knock life, it’s up to you to find your brocade home. Sold: Extra Long “Mohair” Sofa

When you’ve been around as long as we have, you get a feel for what’s needed inside Bellevue living rooms. Are you looking for a piece of furniture to fill out that one long wall that dwarfs every peice of art you buy? How about that open space that needs a cozy, unassuming line–one that separates living areas while inviting conversation?

Look no further.

This luxurious custom-made elongated sofa boasts an impressive eight and a half feet of length! With typical depth and height (34″ x 27.5″), it isn’t oversized or overstuffed. We like to call it “just about right!”

We took the sturdy frame, added all new supports and springs, and crafted the piece from the inside out. We chose a decadent Robert Allen wool velvet upholstery fabric in color “Cocoa” with 100,000 double rubs (in English – it’ll withstand a lot of wear). The look and feel are reminiscent of mohair, without the designer price. At $1,900, you can probably afford that big, gorgeous painting you’ve been eyeing as well.

The Upholsterer Opens Her Doors

Ever wonder what Guy Fieri or Rachael Ray cook for their loved ones on a Tuesday night? Curious to know what Mario Andretti drives around town, or even which operating system Bill Gates runs on his laptop? We can’t answer those questions for you, but in the spirit of brotherhood, we can give you a brief glimpse into the living room of our very own upholsterer, It’s Bout Time’s owner, Judee Burklund.

Judee’s living room maintains a warm feel while boasting bold patterns atop sleek, modern lines. How does she do it? By combining traditional upholstery elements (like the scalloped back and nailhead trim of this custom made sitting chair) with whimsical fabrics, “colder” colors, and straight lines (like this chair’s thin, gray legs).

For over 30 years, the Burklund family has been creating custom furniture for eastside and Seattle clients. You’ll find Judee in our showroom throughout the week. Stop by to meet her and you’ll be sure to learn something you can take home with you. Literally.

That’s right! Check out the January/February issue of “425 Magazine,” and you’ll see our handiwork right in the cover article.

“Her Haven,” a look into the colorful Medina home of clothing designer, Nancy Cirillo, is a prime example of just how much some new upholstery can do for a home. Designer Nichole Jacobson took the expansive residence from ‘grand traditional’ to ‘glam sophisticate’ overnight with splashes of bright color, bold patterns, and luscious textures.

Nichole worked with It’s Bout Time Upholstery to turn a classic side chair into the hot pink focus piece featured on two of the article’s images. This is what Jacobson had to say about the process (p. 28): “One of the more fun transformations was lacquering a French side chair hot pink and reupholstering it in a beautifully soft, textured velvet of the same color. I then added a touch of nailhead on the armrests for some bling!”
