Welcome Spring With All Things New

Each year, It’s Bout Time Upholstery celebrates the onset of spring by introducing bright hues, exotic patterns, and even a bit of brilliant blue into your day. When spring comes, each of us gets an opportunity to look around, reassess our living space (and even our life!), and make appropriate changes. In the upholstery business, that can mean reupholstering tired couches, ordering a custom focus piece, or even outfitting your boat for the summer. We Upholster Dressers Too!

This old white dresser sat unused in a basement until a new mom-to-be got creative with her baby room decorating. She decided to have us upholster the drawers and add new knobs, and the effect was astonishing! Our upholsterers used only a couple yards of fabric, so she kept her costs down while creating a completely new look for both the dresser and the whole room. The striped wall paint and accessories flowed naturally from the statement piece we helped her create.

Custom Textured Ottoman: For Feet

Bellevue patrons usually want one of three things when they order a custom ottoman: 1) They want an ottoman that will never be touched, much less used for feet (or worse – feet with shoes on!), 2) they want an ottoman that will actually be used as a table, with a decorative tray for holding beverages, or 3) (and more rarely) they want an ottoman for an ottoman’s job. That is, they want something with an extremely high thread count that can withstand bare, socked and shoe’d feet, trays, coffee drips, and maybe even crayons.

This customer wanted #3. So we outfitted a custom made ottoman with her exact specifications in a Duralee Suburban Home Collection fabric that can withstand anything her family and friends can throw at it. It Started On a Summer Saturday….

If you’re ever tempted to reupholster your own furniture, look no further than this example. See the dilapidated love-seat bench below? This is what our customer found when he decided to reupholster his own decades-old settee for a “Saturday project” this summer. Unfortunately, he discovered a chair bottom that needed all new springs, padding and alignment. In a moment of sheer genius, he decided to bring it to us. The gorgeous ancient mahogany wood was solid, so all he needed was an experienced upholstery shop to rebuild the inner workings for a fraction of the cost of a new piece.

At It’s Bout Time Upholstery, we’re a little too popular to churn out a rebuilt piece on a single Saturday, but within a couple weeks, he had an understated (and comfortable!) seat that brings out the lighter golden hues that used to hide in the wood. Brocade Home

It’s a hard knock life. So kick up your feet on a luxe chenille ottoman and while away the hours. Not everyone can come home to a soft brocade cushion, take a sip, and let the day go. One of our customers gave it a go with this custom made chenille brocade ottoman. Its ruched sides and inverted pleats in a muted zebra print add a hint of kick in an otherwise classic, luxurious pin-cushion piece. In this hard knock life, it’s up to you to find your brocade home. Victorian Sentimentality

Every once in a while we get a special piece of furniture that requires particular care and exacting measure. This sturdy antique Victorian chaise lounge was one such opportunity. The variety of angles, rises and crevices made it a challenging and rewarding experience for our team. But we knew that the decadent velvet chenille fabric would bring this exquisite piece of furniture back to its original pomp and splendor.

Victorian couches like this one are reminiscent of a romantic time when tactile experiences and visual flow were worthwhile creative endeavors. We couldn’t agree more with the sentiment, and we can only hope the owners toss a good number of trimmed, ribboned and ruffled Victorian gowns over the well-shaped arms since the lounge was no-doubt created to hold them.

Out Of The [Tie] Box

When an old client came in with a sly look in her eye, we knew we were in for something special. The worn side chair in her arms needed a new cushion, some updated fabric, and a coat of paint. But somehow, we knew she had something extra in mind.

She wanted the perfect conversation piece that would do much more than function as a seat for putting shoes on in her Bellevue home’s master walk-in closet. She loved our idea. “Bring in some of your husband’s old ties and we’ll construct the design from them!” A fresh coat of white paint, a little bit of math, and a secure weaving process later, the chair was updated to perfection. Right out of the [tie] box!
